Vicia sativa ssp nigra   Common Vetch

Vicia sativa ssp nigra Tasmania whole Vicia sativa ssp nigra Tasmania close

This is a very common grassland plant in the the British Isles and mainland Europe so it was one of the very few species which I could identify without the aid of an Australian or Tasmanian flora. The pink/purple flowers and narrow leaves make it ssp nigra as opposed to the broader leaved, bi-coloured and commoner ssp segetalis.
