Vinca major Blue Periwinkle
This alien has been around for a while in Australia so it has, like many British plants, acquired a number of colloquial names such as: Periwinkle, Vinca, Sorcerer's Violet, Big Leaf Periwinkle, Greater Periwinkle and Blue Buttons. In the British Isles we know it as Greater Periwinkle to distinguish it from the smaller ground cover plant: Vinca minor (Lesser Periwinkle). It is found in south western Australia as well as the eastern states and Tasmania - usually near the coast where there are large urban populations are as it is usually a garden escape.
