Trifolium montanum Mountain Clover
Widespread throughout Europe even in the eastern and northern European countries, this clover looks a little like Trifolium repens (White Clover) but to me always seems more compact and neater with regular florets in the flower head. The trefoil leaves are more lance shaped than White Clover and the stems have a slight woolliness. It will grow to heights of 8,000 feet but at lower altitudes as well. It is the County flower of Oslo and occurs in Scandinavian countries including Finland. It has not been recorded in Britain.
