Romulea columnae Sand Crocus RRR DD N
It was only just warm enough for these very small flowers to open but there were a few in the half open position. They lie flat near the ground and you can get an idea of how small they are by the size of the blade of grass running from right hand photo.
Other than the channel islands where it can be found in several places, this plant is so rare there are only two other sites on the south coast of mainland Britain. It is absent from Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
