Plantago media Hoary Plantain
Plantago media is usually easy to spot because it is reasonably tall compared with the grassland it inhabits and the anthers form a mist around the flower spike. Usually the cloud of anthers is whitish or pinkish in the UK but here in the Pyrenees there was a much darker purple tinge to the colour. The flowers are said to be fragrant and although this is a lowland plant of calcareous meadows in the British Isles it will grow to heights of 8,000 feet in Europe
It is found throughout the Mediterranean region.
