Although mostly found at the coast on bare ground or in short turf, P. coronopus can also be found inland particularly in East Anglia. The toothed leaves and small rosette are characteristic but it is quite a variable plant.

P. coronopus is found around the whole coastline of the British Isles including the even the islands distant from the mainland like Shetland and St Kilda.
