Phegopteris connectilis Beech Fern
As often happens on a botanical expedition, we sat in the sunshine around some rocks enjoying our Naturetrek picnic at lunchtime. Chewing and contemplating the local flora I noticed both Phegopteris connectilis (Beech Fern) and Gymnocarpium dryopteris (Oak Fern) growing under one of our sitting rocks. Nobody was much interested - why bother with a few ferns when there are so much more exotic and beautiful plants to see? I must be a bit of a plant nerd because I think ferns are beautiful too.
