In UK we are very familiar with a similar species: Briza media known as Quaking Grass. This species has smaller spikelets and is an annual. It is quite rare in UK but here in Western Australia there are many records throughout the south western corner ranging from north of Shark Bay, through the Wheat Belt and down to Albany. From there records are dotted here and there even beyond Cape Arid.
