Tulipa humilis
At approximately 9,000 feet with snow all around us, it looked an unlikely place to find much growing but as is often the case, looking between the rocks in the hidden sheltered places and further down in the valley, there were huge numbers of all kinds of alpine flowers. Tulip humilis we had seen in ones and twos at lower alpine altitudes but here there were large healthy clumps in full flower.
Tulipa humilis is quite short as the Latin name suggests and can be found in eastern Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, Iran which is very close to this part of Turkey and in the northern Caucasus.
