Sulphur Clover is a European species found in France, Germany, Spain, southern Greece, Italy and other countries but it is found predominantly in the west of the continent. It also occurs as a native plant in Britain in the east midlands and in east Anglia. It even at one time used to grow at one site in the frozen north of Cheshire but industrial works by the Manchester Ship Canal company put paid to that site.

Apparently in the right angle of sunshine the flowers look sulphur yellow but it is always a creamy sort of colour. A clump forming rhizomatous perennial it is usually associated with basic soils such as chalk or limestone.
