Stachys macrantha Caucasus Woundwort
Often in grown in European gardens as a border plant or as an alpine, this very attractive plant is one of the few from this region to have been given an English name. We found it very often in sub-alpine regions of the Caucasus and always it looked too showy to be a mere wild plant. It looks so different from the Stachys species in the UK, even the very pretty Betony (Betonica officinalis) would be over shadowed by this plant which produces many large florets.
