Silene veselskyi
Previously known as Heliosperma eriophorum and Heliosperma glutinosum, this plant was eventually placed in Silene first by Janka then later by H. Neumayer. It was named after the Czech plant collector Bedrich Veselsky (1813-1866). The original Heliosperma genus names arise from the fact that a ridge surrounding the flattened seeds reminds you of the sun (Helios) and glutinosa is often used as a species name for plants with many glandular hairs as this one has.
Silene veselskyi is found in the south eastern Alps at heights of between 3,000 and 9,000 feet.
