Scaevola calliptera
This is a quite low growing, even sometimes prostrate plant with slightly succulent leaves and bright blue or purple flowers. Scaevola species are known generally as "fan flowers" because the shape of the flower is usually like the right hand photo above, but with Scaevola calliptera I have found that the five petals are often more symmetrically distributed around the corolla. It is a rather beautiful species in a genus with some rather ordinary looking plants aesthetically speaking.
Scaevola calliptera is common throughout much of the south west corner of Australia and has been found on the east coast very occasionally.
