Salix serpyllifolia Thyme-leaved Willow
Also known as Salix retusa ssp serpyllifolia this, like many alpine willows this is a procumbent plant clinging to the ground and adopting the shape of the rock. It has woody stems and glossy slightly veined leaves and is found at heights of between 6,000 and 10,000 feet in the central and eastern Alps, the Pyrenees and some Balkan mountains.
