Ruta chalapensis   Fringed Rue

Ruta chalapensis whole Ruta chalapensis close

This shrub with its very distinctive flowers and long style looked as though it would be easy to identify but it took some time before it became obvious to me that the succulent leaves were typical of the Rue family. This plant like other members of the Rue family (Rutaceae) has very pungent leaves when crushed and is used medicinally in the Middle East.
