Pyrus communis   Pear I

Pyris communis whole Pyris communis close

Stace is doubtful about the sub species of Pyrus pyraster (Wild Pear) and even about any real differences between this and Pyrus communis (Pear). Generally either species has white flowers with reddish or purplish undehisced (pollen still inside) anthers while the pinkish flowers of the apple trees have yellowish anthers. Other than that you have to wait for the fruit.

Pyrus communis has escaped into the wild in much of England, lowland Wales and around the industrial belt in Scotland. There is only a little in Ireland.
