Pyrus amygdaliformis   Almond-leaved Pear

Pyrus amygdaliformis whole Pyrus amygdaliformis close

The small round fruit of Pyrus amygdaliformis (amygdalinus = almond like, referring to the leaves), is called wild pear by the Greek people but there is some evidence that eating it regularly can cause liver damage. It grows around the Mediterranean basin and in nearby countries like Bulgaria and will tolerate quite poor soils.
