Prunus padus Bird Cherry C DD N
Prunus padus has distinctive long conical racemes which are most obvious just before flowering. It is a native which is very common on basic soils although it will tolerate lower pH soils as well. The fruit looks like a small black cherry.
Common in the north of England and much of Scotland this Prunus species is not common in a line from The Wash to Devon and Cornwall. It is common in Wales and northern Ireland but less common in the republic of Ireland.
