Petasites albus White Butterbur I
This European introduction is happier in the North of the country than the South. It flowers very early so if you are used to starting your botanical hunting in the early Spring rather than the late or mid winter you could miss it. The patch from which these photos come was just starting to flower in mid January. This plant is dioecious and this the male.
P. albus is dotted sparsely throughout England and Wales but commoner in Scotland and is often found in the east up to Inverness. It is rare in Ireland.
