Parapholis strigosa   Hard Grass C DD N

Parapholis strigosa

There are some grasses which although not easy to identify , grow in specialised habitats and this is one. P. strigosa prefers barish or sandy ground near the sea where salt spray and sometimes sea water will encroach. It has a distinctive and erect sometimes lightly curved habit, with a stiffness which give it its name.

Apart from the very occasional record inland where roads have been salted, P. strigosa is a coastal plant found in England, Wales, eastern ireland with a little in southern Scotland.
