Moenchia erecta Upright Chickweed R DD N
This little plant was found amongst the Poa infirma (Early Meadow-grass), Mibora minima (Early sand-grass), Viola kitaibeliana (Dwarf Pansy), Myosotis ramosissima (Early Forget-me-not) - for some reason this delightful little path of Guernsey has all the early plants and rare ones too. M erecta isn't a plant I see very often but we came across it at all the stations we visited on Guernsey. There are quite a few early white flowers like this one but M. erecta has sepals longer than the petals.
M. erecta is found in southern England and most often on the south coast as well as on the Channel Islands where it was common. It is scarce in Wales and northern England and very rare on Scotland. It is not recorded from Ireland.
