Moehringia muscosa Mossy Sandwort
This member of the Caryophyllaceae (Pink) family has been known as Arenaria muscosa in the past and is now the type species for Moehringia. Although many members of the Pink family have five petals, Moehringia muscosa usually has four plus linear leaves with one, two or three veins. It is usually found in the hills but not always - in France it has been found at lower levels in the south. Otherwise in Europe the Alps, Pyrenees and Apennines can be its home at heights of up to 8,000 feet on basic, usually limestone, rocks in the shade.
