Luzula campestris Field Wood-rush CCC D N
We have lots of this common rush in our "lawn" and I have always known it by its English name of Good Friday Grass. Easter is of course a moveable feast so the date of Good Friday varies but Luzula campestris always seems to be in full bloom on Good Friday just the same. It can start to flower as early as March 1st. It is a very common rush in grassland an has hairy leaves and sheath from which the stem and flower emerge.
Luzula campestris is one of our commonest grassland plants being found everywhere in the British Isles both in the countryside and in gardens, in the north, the south and on all the islands too.
