Lilium martagon Martagon Lily
Often an introduced plant found in the British Isles has a much more vigorous counterpart when in its native habitat but these Lilies which we saw quite often, were very similar in size and colour to those occasionally seen in Great Britain. It is also known as Turk's-cap Lily and is a favourite with gardeners. It has been hybridised to produce more colour varieties. The bulb can be used as a source of starch for food like a potato and other parts of the plant have in the past been used as treatment for heart disease by herbalists.
