Fritillaria obliqua ssp tuntasia
The usual flowering period for this Fritillaria is February/March/April so we should have been in the middle and able to choose which specimen to photograph. Unfortunately there had been little winter rain and the seasons were far advanced such that most of the plants were well into seed. We were lucky that at the side of the road, in a dark pocket of damp vegetation this single plant was still in flower.
Fritillaria obliqua ssp tuntasia is found only on Kythnos and one other neighbouring island of the Cyclades islands near the mainland of Greece in the Aegean sea.
