Colchicum kurdicum
For centuries Colchicum species have been harvested for herbal uses. In western Turkey we actually witnessed this in 2015 when local folks were gather Colchicum triphyllum in sacks. In the east of Turkey Colchicum kurdicum is gathered for use in treating rheumatism. This is now an accepted way of alleviating some symptoms in western medicine. Colchicine, the active substance in these plants, is actually very poisonous but can be used as an anti inflammatory if prescribed in exactly the right doses. It is described as having "a very narrow therapeutic window".
This plant was known as Merendera kurdica for many years. It is found in Turkey, Iran and Iraq.
