Colchicum bivonae
The reticulated/tesselated pattern on the petals of this particular Colchicum was more pronounced than in many and as it states in the books, the flowers were less open, more goblet shaped. As with many of these crocus like perennials, the leaves appear at a different time in Spring and by the Autumn just the flower emerges from the corm. The nutrients stored in the corm should ensure that the plant is independent of the weather above but the extremes of dryness and even drought which Greece had endured during 2017 meant that there were fewer emerging at the time we visited.
It is widespread in Mediterranean countries for Sardinia and Italy to Greece and Turkey.
