Carex vaginata Sheathed Sedge RR DD N
This is a northern sedge most often found in cold flushes high in the hills. It has a loose sheath around the flower spike which is sometimes quite inflated or baggy.
These basic flushes on the north west Pennines are the most southerly outpost of C. vaginata the rest is in the hills of mid-northern Scotland. There is none to be found in the warmer climates of southern England, Wales and Ireland.
