This is a fairly common sedge to be found at the edges of ponds. It is a medium sized plant with "normal" sized sedge fruit and often grows alongside Carex rostrata with which it occasionally hybridises.

Carex vesicaria is found dotted throughout the British Isles and Ireland without being abundant anywhere.
