Caladenia flava subsp sylvestris    Karri Cowslip Orchid Endemic

Caladenia flava ssp sylvestris whole Caladenia flava ssp sylvestris whole

We found this in Karri Forest not far from the sea and at first I thought it was an ordinary Cowslip Orchid (Caladenia flava). But the the very long stems suggested it might be a sub species and sure enough Florabase confirmed that this is the woodland version of ordinary Caladenia flava which is usually quite low growing.

It is found in the south western corner of Australia through the Karri Forest region and beyond along the southern coastal plain well past Albany.
