Berberis x stenophylla Hedge Barberry DD I
This common garden barberry is actually a hybrid between Berberis darwinii (Darwin's Barberry) and Berberis empetrifolia (Crow Barberry). It has narrow mucronate (spiny tip) leaves which have distinct revolute (inrolled) margins underneath like B. empetrifolia and golden yellow flowers which are similar in shape to B. darwinii and distinctly fragrant on the plant I photographed.
It is found dotted throughout England and Wales but there is little to be found in Scotland or Ireland.
