Artemisia vulgaris   Common Mugwort CCC D N

Artemisia vulgaris

I'm quite proud of this photo which makes one of the UK's dullest and most ubiquitous weeds look almost interesting. It loves disturbed and waste ground and can be found on almost any roadside verge in the country.  When you look closely you rarely find what looks like a flower - it always seems to be either in bud or finished.

It is extremely common in England and Wales but frequency reduces as you go north in Scotland where it is more often found near the coast. In Ireland it is fairly common.
