Artemisia verlotiorum Chinese Mugwort DD I
This introduction which has been naturalised since the early 20th century is found in similar places to the native A. vulgaris (Common Mugwort). Indeed from a distance it looks quite similar to the native Mugwort but closer inspection reveals darker leaves and quite distinct flowers which look quite colourful. A vulgaris sometimes never opens from the bud stage.
It was first found in the wild in the London area where it is now quite common but hasn't spread very far outside he capital. there are small sites here and there, some in the north of Scotland but London is where to find it. It does not occur in Ireland.
