Similar in some ways to Viola calcarata (Long-spurred Pansy) this species differs in having a long, pointed spur and long thin, pointed sepals with significant sepal appendages. It is also fragrant. It is found in the Pyrenees and northern Spain plus north eastern Europe at heights of up to 7,500 feet but not usually in the Alps.
