Viola altaica Altaian Violet
If this Violet looks a little familiar it is probably because it is thought to be one of the ancestors of Viola x wittrockiana, a common garden plant sold in nurseries and garden centres everywhere in Britain. It is found in the Altai mountains which are are a mountain range in Central and East Asia, where the Russia, China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan borders are close together. It can also be found native in the Caucasus like this one was, the Crimea and in Turkey.
