Trifolium dubium Lesser Trefoil CCC DD N
This is a low growing and rather insignificant member of the clover family which has small yellow flowers. It can be confused with Medicago lupulina (Black Medick) which is a bit larger overall and usually has a sharp point at the apex of the leaf but the distinguishing feature of Medicago lupulina is the black knobbly fruits. Trifolium dubium has heart-shaped or oval leaves. It was too early in the year to show fruits on this particular Trifolium dubium.
Apart from some places in the highlands this plant is found all over the British Isles including the outer islands and will grow at the seaside like this one or on waste land, verges, paths - almost anywhere.
