Spergularia rubra   Sand Spurrey C DD N

Spergularia rubra is a plant of gravelly places (which is exactly where we found this one). I expect this one to be a deeper pink than the other Spergularia species and with the sepals longer than the petals but they are all a bit more variable than the books say. Spergularia rubra can be found inland as well as on the coats and is known from all over Mainland Britain. Surprisingly it is uncommon in Ireland with a few records in the south and north.
