Senna artemisioides   Silver Cassia Endemic

Senna artemisioides whole Senna artemisioides close

Senna artemisioides used to be called Cassia artemisioides and still is labelled as that in some garden centre and nurseries. It is a drought tolerant member of the Fabaceae family (or Leguminosae) which we know as the Pea or Bean family and it grows in almost every state in Australia where it is endemic. This plant has black pods doesn't have a flower like the typical pea plant. The leaves are covered with fine hairs giving them a silvery appearance hence Silver Cassia or Feathery Cassia both common names for this shrub. In Western Australia it is dotted all over except for the very far south west corner which is the most temperate part of the area but it will grow in the arid bush and desert areas of the Australian interior.
