Scrophularia sambucifolia Elder-leaved Figwort
Native to southern Spain, Portugal, and Morocco but otherwise only occasionally seen in other countries, this unusual Figwort has quite attractive flowers. Figwort flowers are often very much smaller proportionately than the rest of the plant making photography difficult. The flowers of Scrophularia sambucifolia can be lemon yellow, orange like this or red, all with the distinctive leaves similar to those on an Elder shrub (Sambucus nigra). The plant can be up to 1.5 metres in height and will grow in damp places, and on some roadside verges in southern Spain.
