Rumex acetosa ssp acetosa Rumex acetosa ssp acetosa young plant

This very common plant of waste places, verges and even your gardens is found in all parts of the British Isles. The leaves are arrow shaped and taste quite acidic so some people use them in salads. There are four sub species of R. acetosa and this one, ssp acetosa is the commonest.

Rumex acetosa is one of our commonest plants being found on every island of the British Isles including the outer isles of St Kilda and Shetland.
