Rhynchocorys stricta
At a medium distance this was an attractive, brightly coloured flower of medium height but at close range the flowers appear to resemble little yellow elephants. This one is an annual but the similarity was noticed by the discovering German botanist Heinrich Rudolf Grisebach, who named the similar looking perennial plant: Rhynchocorys elephas.
Rhynchocorys stricta is a hemiparasitic plant
in the Orobanchaceae family found mostly in sub alpine,
damp or wet meadows. It is endemic to eastern Turkey and the Caucasus.
