Rhodothamnus chamaecistus Dwarf Alpenrose
In 2002 a few plants of this hairy shrub were amongst the hundreds of shrubs of Rhododendron ferrugineum (Alpenrose) in the Austrian Tyrol but this particular plant with its proportionately large pink flowers were high up in the bleaker Wilderkaiser mountains opposite. In 2014 this shrub was in full flower amongst the limestone boulders. In some floras this shrub is still named Rhododendron chamaecistus.
In the Alps Rhodothamnus chamaecistus is found towards the eastern end and at heights of up to 8,000 feet.
