Rhodalsina geniculata

Rhodalsina geniculata whole Rhodalsina geniculata close

This species has enjoyed many synonyms and been placed in Alsine, Minuartia, Arenaria and Cherleria. Molecular studies in 2017 have indicated it is unique and not part of Minuartia where it has been placed for decades, so the original name of Rhodalsina applies. To The untrained eye (mine in this case) it looks very like the Spergularia species we see at the seaside or by salted roads.

It is found from the Canary islands, Gibraltar, the Mediterranean basin and east and south to Somalia.
