Potentilla nivea Snowy Cinquefoil
The blue flowers near the yellow Potentilla nivea are Eritrichium nanum (King of the Alps). This gravelly plateau above the snow line was covered in the alpine flowers of high summer and quite one of the most spectacular alpine displays I have ever seen. Potentilla nivea is a high mountain plant flourishing from 5,000 to 10,000 feet in the Alps, the Scandinavian mountains and the northern Appenines.
