Platanthera bifolia Lesser Butterfly-orchid
The difference in anther position between this and Platanthera chlorantha (Greater Butterfly-orchid) must be examined carefully because the plants themselves are about the same size and will grow in the same habitats (Alpine Meadows) as each other. In the UK they tend not to be seen together so often. Perhaps the most surprising thing about this orchid is that it can be classed as an Alpine growing as it does in meadows throughout the mountainous regions of Europe up to 7,500 feet.
