Periploca laevigata
This shrub, a member of the Asclepiadaceae (Milkweed family), favours arid climates and so is found in the dryer parts of the Mediterranean like this region near Almeria, and in hotter places such as north Africa and Syria. The rather plastic looking flowers are unremarkable but the fruits are very strange. The two containing follicles make a sort of wing shape which is so much larger than the flower itself that when you see this plant for the first time you wonder what on earth they are.
