Orobanche flava Yellow Broomrape
Also known as the Butterbur Broomrape, this plant is parasitic upon members of the Asteraceae (Daisy) family. In particular it is most commonly found on Petasites paradoxa (Alpine Butterbur) and the one you can see in the foreground of the LHS photo, Tussilago farfara (Colt's-foot) and occasionally on Adenostyles species. It is not common but is found in a wide area of sub alpine habitats at heights of up to 6,000 feet in France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and some eastern European countries too. Some texts suggest it is mostly found on stony ground but we found it in a damp, grassy meadow full of the host species.
