Opuntia ficus-indica Prickly Pear
Also known as Indian or Barbary Fig and at one time grown as a fruit crop, this plant is a common sight in various Mediterranean countries. Sometimes the plant is even used for hedging. The flowers are bright yellow, red or white and the fruits reddish and edible. It is thought to have originated in Mexico.
