Ophrys kotschyi ssp cretica Cretan Ophrys
A chance stop for lunch just before checking in to the airport led me to investigate the flora on some waste ground nearby. This orchid was there along with many other good plants. Later I realised that this was limestone country hence the improvement in the flora.
Taxonomy: Although Ophrys cretica (Soó) E.Nelson is logically quoted as the name for this species in many texts, Kew and World Checklist insist this plant is a subspecies of Ophrys kotschyi: Ophrys kotschyi ssp cretica (Soó) H.Sund.
