Neotinea ustulata Burnt Orchid
This orchid grows in Britain as well as Europe but is increasingly difficult to find as its preferred habitat is threatened or "developed". It is quite small and from above can be easily missed as the very dark tips to the flower (ustulata = burnt) buds conceal themselves easily in the grass. It is also known as Burnt Tip Orchid.
Taxonomy: For many years known as Orchis ustulata L., and still to be found named as such by Delforge and others, the accepted and correct name for this taxon according to the major databases is now Neotinea ustulata (L.) R.M.Bateman, Pridgeon & M.W.Chase.
